A lot of people celebrate “Christmas in July”. I’m not necessarily one of those people, though I have been known to randomly listen to Christmas music because I just love it. Whether you are a Christmas fanatic or not, it’s never to early to plan this year’s Christmas dates with your man.
For our December date night in, I kept it pretty simple. I decided to invite Stu to deck the halls with me & the kids (yes kids. Both our skin baby and furbaby. Maverick got in on the action, too. He was thrilled.)
For our date night out, we went on a holiday lights tour. Since we’re new in town, I didn’t know which streets have the best light displays, so I asked around. A good friend suggested that we check out, Christmas at the Cody’s. If you aren’t familiar with North Platte, its claim to fame is Buffalo Bill Cody. His Scout’s Rest Ranch is a state park and a great place to visit. At Christmas time, there is a tree set up in every room of the Cody mansion and the out buildings are all lit up. Also, Santa is hiding in one of the back rooms.
We enjoyed some hot cider as we checked out the decorations in the barn and took a horse-drawn hayrack ride. It was freezing but we had fun. If you are near North Platte, I highly recommend Christmas at the Cody’s. If you aren’t, check around for special holiday events in your area. It is fun to see what your community has to offer and these types of events only come around once a year!
Afterward, some friends suggested that we check out “Candy Cane Lane” a very festive street south of town with an awesome light display at every house. Beautiful.
Then, to warm up, we headed to Penny’s diner for hot chocolate and pie. This little diner is so retro. Fun atmosphere and delicious pie!
